Food Project on Track! - An Impact Measurement of the TU Munich
Do the nutritional knowledge and nutritional behaviour of children who have a school garden change? Yes!
This was found out by the Technical University (TU) Munich in an impact measurement commissioned by the BayWa Foundation. The researchers found out that a school garden has a positive effect on the health and development of children.
Structure of the study
In autumn 2016, they went to schools that did not yet have a school garden and took various measurements: What knowledge do the children already have about nutrition, how fit are they and what about their health? In the following year, half of these schools received a school garden from the BayWa Foundation, then the measurements were carried out again - both at the schools with school garden and at those without school garden. The comparison shows how successful a school garden is for the education on nutrition of children.
